Linux Desktop device sync failed with no real information

I recently installed Desktop for Linux for the first time but am having no luck getting it connected with my existing mobile app.

I enable the camera, scan the QR code shown in the mobile app but always hit this error message.

“Device failed to sync”, but clicking on “Show error details” does not do anything.

Are there some log files I can dig out, or some other way to troubleshoot this? Thanks!

Hello @bobsummerwill ,

We have received similar reports from people finding issues when they try to sync their Status 2.30 phone and desktop apps. We hope to eliminate most of these problems in Status 2.31 (just around the corner).

Meanwhile, please verify your phone and computer are using the same Wi-Fi network, and you have no VPN or firewall active on any of them. For more information, check out Sync your profile across devices — Status.

Thank you for your patience!

Thanks for the reply. I tried again on another laptop and got the exact same issue.

I did verify that I was on the same Wifi with VPN off and no firewall.

So I guess I am waiting for 2.31, unless there is some additional logging which I can get to you guys to help troubleshoot? Thanks!

No problem, @bobsummerwill :slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t know if there is a way to gather logs and troubleshooting this issue. When other users reported this problem, I didn’t see them requesting any logs.

I believe it’s a bug that can only be fixed on Status’ side. I’m sorry you have to wait a bit more to keep your devices in sync, but 2.31 shouldn’t take long. (I already some tweets in Status X’s account.)

Have a great day!

Sadly 2.31 hit another issue!

@bobsummerwill You can find the logs here ~/.config/Status/. Let’s see if the logs will help to identify the issue you’re facing.
